Village of Masgot - An unusual village: discover through a visit to the Village of Masgot, the famous story of François Michaud, and more broadly that of the Masons of Creuse.

A village born from a passion

The village of Masgot hides a very curious and interesting peculiarity. François Michaud, a 19th century peasant-stonecutter, practiced his passion here, in the heart of his hamlet and decorated it with unique and unusual sculptures . This original approach allowed him to express his convictions and dreams and to embellish his living spaces. As you walk through the streets, you discover an entrance to a vegetable garden under the watchful eye of an eagle, a wolf-dog-fox or even a mermaid. He transformed the entrance to one of the houses into the gate of a mansion. Napoleon precedes a naked woman, perhaps a Marianne, facing a seated animal.

This is how he joined artists such as Facteur Cheval and his Palais Idéal, Abbé Fouré and his extravagant rock-characters. By daring to simply be himself and asserting his difference, he thus elevates his art as a self-taught sculptor to that of Naïve or Popular Art .
